BRC Live 06 Report written by Chod.

Well as per usual the day started off early with a few of us meeting at various location throughout Burton. We had a nice slow drive in convoy to the venue.

We arrived nice and early and it was obvious that a lot more cars came with clubs than expected, BCC has a good 20 strong cars representing the club. Cars on the club stand varied from Skylines to Corsas and in a line they all looked amazing.

By 10am the rallying began and all types and classes of Rally Car took to the track. The Stobart Focus, Ralliart’s Evo 9’s and surprisingly the Suzuki Ignis put on enjoyable viewing, as well as the legend Gwyndaf Evans in one of the Hankook Evo’s.

At 11am the Group B Rally cars took to the track, showing that 25yo rally cars can still do the business!! Furthermore the Vauxhall Chevette, Renault 5 Maxi Turbo to name but a few put on a remarkable and a memorable showing! Especially when all 18 cars took to the track after lunch! And they didn’t hold back!

The Rally vs. Modified wasn’t what we all expected, due to insurance reasons cars had to do individual timed sprints of 150metres. An Rx7 decided a bit of sideways action was what it needed to get a good launch, one of the supra’s had a bit too much power too soon and and the car’s suspension was set up for track and not for launch!
The winner was a WRC Evo with launch control, however the Spoox 309, or 306 to the commentator… came 3rd out of 8!

The Rally relay was eventful, where the cars did a full lap from the start line, a complete stop in a coned box on the straight to set off the next car! On the second relay I believe an RS200 and another Group B had both been hammering it around, came to the boxes. One slammed the brakes on, locked up, stopped relatively straight, however the RS200 lost it, 180’d and reversed into the other! Only cosmetic damage but should we cringe at the damage of such legendary Rally Cars, or laugh at such an awesome race!

Rage Buggies with Colin McRae behind the wheel and Super bike’s doing a 46second lap kept us amused and entertained throughout the day, and big thanks to the Quads and Scramblers for covering us in mud... and nicking our parking area

Overall a good day out for all rally fans, a must for next year also.
